5 Fil-Ams on Asiana plane that crash-landed in San Francisco

MANILA—The Philippine Embassy in the United States has confirmed that at least five Filipino-Americans were aboard the Asiana Airlines plane flight that crash-landed in San Francisco on Saturday.

The embassy said on its Twitter that Maricel Anino Knaus and her two children and the elderly couple Ruben and Belen Vallero sustained minor injuries in the crash, which killed two Chinese teenagers at the San Francisco International Airport.

Citing information from the Philippine consulate in San Francisco, the Philippine Embassy confirmed that Knaus and her two sons were aboard Asiana Airlines Flight 214 along with the Valleros, who were returning to San Francisco after a three-week vacation in the Philippines.

The five have been discharged from hospital.

The embassy had reported earlier that no passengers of Filipino descent were among casualties in the crash, having been told that “no Philippine passport holders and no Filipino-sounding names were among US passport holders” on the flight.
