MANILA, Philippines—Two Korean nationals who earlier posed as complainants were arrested in Manila for beating up two fellow Koreans from whom they allegedly tried to extort P1 million.

Jang Moon Ho, 47, and An Chul Ho, 46, were apprehended by members of the Manila Police District’s District Police Intelligence Operation Unit (MPD-DPIOU) in a Malate bar at 11 p.m. on Friday.

In a report, MPD-DPIOU head Chief Insp. Daniel Buyao Jr. said that around 8 p.m. of the same day, the two Koreans went to the police to complain. They said they were tourists who were duped of P800,000 in a cyber-casino game by two suspects who could be found at Dream Girl KTV on Adriatico Street, Malate.

Accompanied by the complainants, a police team was sent to the area but they were surprised when the Koreans introduced themselves as police officers and started shouting and beating up Kwang Jin Kwan, 29, and Choi Kyo Hun, 28.

The police later learned that the complainants had been demanding P1 million from Kwang and Choi and had threatened to beat them up should they refuse.—Erika Sauler
