Wife asks gov’t protection for Mancao against Lacson

LOS ANGELES—The wife of former police Senior Supt. Cezar Mancao II has appealed to the Aquino administration to help protect her husband from Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

Speaking through the family’s US-based lawyer, Maricar Mancao said their family fears that Lacson, whom her husband had implicated as the mastermind in the murders of public relations agent Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, in 2000, would kill him.

“The government made him come home to tell the truth. Now, it has abandoned and discredited him,” said lawyer Arnedo Valera, quoting Maricar, who lives in Florida. “The government is duty-bound to keep him safe.”

Valera said Maricar sounded very distraught when she talked to him on the phone on Friday (Saturday in Manila). Maricar, who called Valera’s law office in Washington, DC, said the family “feels at a loss,” he added.

Mancao fled to the United States in 2001. When Mancao was extradited, Valera served as his legal counsel during the extradition hearings.

Mancao returned to the Philippines in 2009 and offered to serve as state witness. Valera, who is also a family friend, accompanied Mancao and his family on their trip back to Manila.

After the Court of Appeals found Mancao unfit to serve as state witness because of inconsistencies in his testimony, the Manila court hearing the case rejected his petition to be accepted as witness for the state.

“(Mancao) came home to tell the truth and extended an apology to the Filipino people,” Valera said. “Unfortunately, he was discredited as a witness, because of influence peddling by those in power who had something to do with the murders.”

Running for his life

Mancao, himself a suspect in the Dacer-Corbito murders, escaped from his cell in the National Bureau of Investigation early on Thursday.

He claimed there was a threat to his life and said he would not surrender as long as he felt his life was threatened.

Mancao was scheduled to be transferred to the Manila City Jail Thursday morning on orders by the Manila City Regional Trial Court Branch 18. After his escape, Mancao told journalists that he had learned about a plot to move him to the city jail and kill him there. He said Lacson was behind the plan.

Valera urged Mancao to surrender as he appealed to the Aquino administration to protect Mancao and “prosecute the masterminds of these heinous crimes.”

In linking Lacson to the Dacer-Corbito murders, Mancao claimed that the then chief of the Philippine National Police ordered the hit on Dacer because the PR agent was a fierce critic of then President Joseph Estrada.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) brought murder charges against Lacson in 2010, but the senator fled the country before the court could order his arrest. He returned to the country in 2011 after he was cleared by the Court of Appeals.

Itutumba ka talaga niyan….kasi baklah cya! ang mga baklah pumapatay para kunwari e tunay na lalake…defense mechanism nila yan..I mean ng mga baklus na ayaw umamin…pero after killing somebody lalo na kung cute nagkukulong sa kuwarto at humahagulhol..he he he…

    • boymanok

how did mancao knew there was a threat from lacson, when lacson is or was cleared by the courts?

  • Paulstronghold

Who can I turn to? When nobody needs me. My heart wants to know and so I’m must go where destiny leads me. With no stars to guide and no one besides me, I’ll go on my way, after the day, the darkness will hide me…
Pity this mancao, he is designed to be the sacrificial lamb just to put closure to this decade old case. Lacson, on the other hand is confused right now and maybe does not know what to do to to silent mancao. Talo sya kasi si mancao kayang magpa-interview sa media openly..sya tago ng tago, takot na takot. Public opinion is on the side of mancao. Now he is a fugitive, but he is also an expert in”taguan-pung” just like his former boss lacson. Hiding the “truth” in this scenario not only cost large sum of money to the real culprit – they have the power to buy court decisions to favor them, circumvent first person testimonies and if without success resort to swift liquidation of the eyewitness. Grim reality but in the end, it is only God who can provide true justice to the murderers of dacer and corvito.

This type of people can protect themselves. Few years from now, he will be one of the honorable Philippine senators.

In other words, the way even this loving wifey of Mancao stretches the possibilities up the brick wall like what everyone seem to think so, Mancao will be struck by lightning and still will blame Lacson? We should be asking government to protect us all from the criminals but to ask government protecting an alleged accomplice to a crime from another suspect to the crime is simply ludicrous.

  • aquagym

It is surprising that Lacson is held blameless, when obviously at the very least he had knowledge of the murders. Lets follow the dots…. Where did Pinky come into Ping’s life?
When will the coincidences (haha) .
I would love to see the income statements and tax statements of the Lacson clan. Where did all his wealth come from? Didn’t it cost him a lot of money to be in hiding when he was accused?
I hope that Mancao can ask for amnesty from the US government if given a lie detector test to prove he is telling the truth. He will not last in the Philippines if Lacson wants him.
Atleast he can prove that people in Government have reason to want to silence him.

What? She is asking PNoy to protect her husband from Ping? It’s just like asking Hitler to protect the Jews from Goebbels.
