Beware of advertisements in social media networks enticing Filipino nurses to apply for jobs in the United Kingdom.

This was the warning issued Thursday by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), saying that the UK was not actively hiring Filipino nurses.

POEA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said he received information from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo) in London that there was no active hiring of nurses in the UK at present.

He said labor attaché Joan Lourdes Lavilla alerted the POEA about a Facebook (FB) account named Drake Personnel Philippines, which allegedly used to recruit Filipino nurses and other medical professionals.

Cacdac said Drake Personnel Philippines had no valid license from the POEA and was not allowed to recruit or deploy Filipino workers overseas.

He said that to avoid being duped by illegal recruiters, Filipino applicants wanting to work in the United Kingdom may visit https://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/ for useful information about working in the UK and how to get visas for various work categories. Tina G. Santos
