Aquino: Philippines owns Scarborough Shoal, vessels to stay

MANILA, Philippines – President Aquino has declared that the country will continue to station Philippine vessels in Scarborough Shoal or Panatag Shoal because it is part of its territory.

“We believe these are our waters, therefore our vessel has the right to be in our waters,”  the President said, on Monday, of the Philippine Coast Guard vessel currently docked with a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel in the shoal that China has been to belong to them.

The Chief Executive, who dropped by the Palace press room, said the presence of the Philippine vessels has been tantamount to “showing the flag.”

But he made clear that the government would continue to hold talks with Chinese officials to resolve the ongoing impasse.

Let pinoys take this seriously or else we loose our sovereignty. If we say that we are going to defend it if challenge then lets back it up with action and I think we are already being challenged.

Suggestion ko mag organize na ng National Defense Conference para mapagusapan kung paano natin ipagtatangol ang ating bansa. Isama lahat ng industries , government or private.

_____ President Aquino has declared that the country will continue to station Philippine vessels in Scarborough Shoal or Panatag Shoal because it is part of its territory.
“We believe these are our waters, therefore our vessel has the right to be in our waters,”  the President said, on Monday.

It is not farfetched that PNoy is intentionally inviting for trouble by the continued presence of that coast guard vessel to irritate the Chinese into escalating the tension into a shooting war with the Chinese.  If the Chinese lose patience and blast that Philippine vessel there, the U.S., by virtue of the Mutual Defense Treaty, will now have a good reason to send in the 7th fleet to the area and confront the Chinese.

Is this cleverness or foolishness?  We will know soon enough!  Any guess?

    • flamingo flower

my guess would be un-cleverness if that happens either intentionally or unintentionally. the Chinese ship was not there for many years in the past. my feeling is that they had it enough.  I noticed the president shifting rhetoric a little bit, either intentionally or unintentionally, by saying that we believe these are our waters. does it mean he wants to leave a room for a future talk? interesting.

    rehabilitated by local pilipino shipyards

  • PulSamsara

    With all respect:
First of all…. drop the “We believe…”   it’s hedging and weak.  The Chinese will only respect slaps to the face.

It’s your damned territory !  Look at the map world.

      thanks Pul.

Please Mr. President, with due respect as well, drop ‘that’ part of your statement if you wanna say it again. Those are our waters – definitely.
