PAL to fly to Bali twice weekly

/ 04:48 PM March 31, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—National carrier Philippine Airlines says it will operate twice-weekly flights from Manila to the Indonesian resort island of Bali starting in late April.

The company said Saturday that it will utilize an Airbus A320 jet and is offering discounted fares for flights from April 28 to Sept. 30 that are booked before April 30.

It says that Bali is its 26th foreign route and its second destination in Indonesia. It already flies five times a week from Manila to Jakarta via Singapore.

The airline has been struggling with financial losses in recent years and sent termination notices last year to about 2,600 workers as it started outsourcing jobs such as catering.

The layoffs are part of PAL’s survival plan launched in 2010 after it lost $312 million in the previous two years
