Probe of Chinese ‘suicide’ on; chief not buying MPD cops’ tale

By

MANILA, Philippines—“We will not declare the case closed just because of what the police said.”

On this premise, the chief of the National Capital Region Police Office said he had ordered a deeper investigation into the reported “suicide” of a Chinese murder suspect while in the custody of the Manila Police District (MPD) last week.

Director Alan Purisima said the probe would try to find out how businessman Gong Shu Yang was supposedly able to snatch the gun of one of his police escorts and then shoot himself in the face while en route to the Manila Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings on Saturday night.

Also on Monday, MPD spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said Gong’s three police escorts from the homicide section had been ordered to submit themselves to paraffin tests.

The three escorts were Senior Police Officer 1 Charles John Duran, PO3 Alonzo Layugan and PO2 Jason Ibasco.

Gong’s body will also subjected to the same test while crime laboratory personnel will conduct ballistics examinations, Margarejo added.

Police accounts earlier said that a handcuffed Gong, 27, managed to take the gun off the holster of SPO1 Duran when the latter bent over to pick up some documents that fell on the floor of their MPD service vehicle.

Gong, a native of Fujian Shichi City in China, was said to have mumbled something in Chinese and also the words  “Sorry, Mama. Sorry, Papa” before shooting himself.

But speaking to reporters on Monday, Purisima said: “We will investigate that, especially to check if that was what actually happened. We will also let other investigative agencies look into the case.”

“We are keen on focusing on the probabilities of the police’s story being correct,” he added.

Gong was arrested on February 3 for killing his girlfriend, 24-year-old

halatang mahilig sa action movie itong tsikwang Yang at sigurado napanood niya ang shooting ng Bourne Legacy at nag pabaril sa police escort na botcha tuloy.

bobo lang ang maniniwala sa ‘suicide’ na yan.

MPD and all other police stations should have CCTV systems, including all the patrol cars ala US police.

Now the story sounds fishy how he could commit suicide like that.  PNP should investigate the properties and holdings of the Chinese pair…maybe the MPD executed the man to steal their cash and properties.

Bakit ba kayo sobrang interesado sa incident na ito? Hindi ba ninyo alam na mga “killing machine” ang mga PNP? Ang riding in tandem daw, nakipag barilan daw sa kanila habang tumatakas palayo. He hehe.

in the first place, why would you put handcuff with the hands in front?  diba mas safe kung sa likod ang hands nya?

@tangasboy…I am with you on your comment. But this is Philippines, one does not have to have a brain, anybody can be a police officer for as long as you have connections, Also, they didn’t enter this profession to help but to make lots of money from bribery. In October 2010, my brother was murdered, but the police ruled it out as “suicide”…case closed, no more further investigation, know why, cause there’s no money involved. If we were rich, mabilis pa sa kidlat yang mga hinayupak na buwayang iyan. Sila ang salot sa Pilipinas.

I am not trying to defend the cops because I know there are a lot of them who are corrupt, but I don’t think its right to post stupid assumptions like most people here are doing.

I don’t think all the assumptions here can be called stupid. They (the police force) created this kind of image themselves. I grew up in Tondo and my own childhood friend entered into the force but later decided to quit and migrated to the US cause he couldn’t stand what his colleagues were doing.
