Smell of decay leads to body of Arab tourist in Manila hotel room

By

MANILA, Philippines—The smell of decay led to the discovery of the body of a Middle Eastern tourist inside his hotel room in Manila early Thursday.

The body of Ali Mohammed Karam Ghuloum Al Baloushi, 49, a tourist from the United Arab Emirates, was found slumped over the bed and already decomposing.

Police Officer 2 Jose Gumilan, of the Manila Police District homicide section, said that Al Baloushi’s body was discovered around 12:30 a.m. Thursday by employees of the Sandico Apartelle at the corner of M.H. del Pilar and Padre Faura streets in Malate.

Gumilan revealed that the tourist was last seen alive by employees around 4 a.m. Monday and since then had not left his room.

Before the find, 24-year-old desk clerk Gladys Mae Bahinting detected a stench coming from within the hotel guest’s room. Gumilan pointed out that the employee grew worried after she noted that the tourist had not gone out of his room since Monday.

The case investigator instructed 18-year-old security guard Santos Conuna Jr. to accompany her in checking on their guest but when Al Baloushi did not respond to their knocks on the door, they decided to use a duplicate key and saw the dead body.

Gumilan said the body bore no sign of any external injury leading the case investigator to conclude Al Baloushi died of a natural cause.

The body was taken to the St. Yvan funeral parlor for autopsy and safekeeping.

Kindly look into the title… I thought the man died in “Manila Hotel” Thanks PDI

he died in a Manila hotel…not in Manila Hotel.

         Yeah PDI needs schooling………….

Thank you but look again at the title. If you just heard the title rather than reading it, would it not confuse you? Even you added the article “a” before Manila and that made it more clearer that it was not Manila Hotel but a hotel in Manila.

It wasn’t that I did not understand the title. I was hoping that PDI would notice my post and probably revise it to something that’s more clear.

Title of the article is misleading

  • Anonymous

I do not know but when I read the title, the Manila Hotel did not come to mind one bit. The title capitalized the word Manila but no capital letter was used in the word hotel, which suggested that it must have been in one of the hotels in Manila.

The addition of the article “a” before “Manila hotel” could have substantially disconfused the reader but we can see the dilemma where the author is coming from and it would have totally ruined or violated the rules or practices of creating headlines if any article were added.

    • Anonymous

Agree, because you noticed the small “h” immediately. When I initially saw the title, Manila “H”otel immediately came into my mind and that is why I read the article. Had they placed an article before Manila, I would have not clicked on the article

this is PDI my friends. the source of all BS news! and funny we still read them! LOL

I think you are right!  But I find it fun to reveal the BS of PDI stories and see that there are still many people who actually believe in the propaganda.  Also the forum here makes it very convenient to have these discussions/arguments about topics and issues we are interested in.

Funny, but I found nothing unusual either in the title or the news itself.  Maybe it has something to do with my “broader” understanding….

I wonder what happened to Housekeeping checks between Monday to Thursday? Procedures in hotels call for daily checks and reports and no answers to door knocks need security check.
