CCCI to help upgrade Cebu roads

/ 12:14 PM April 06, 2011

A BUSINESS group is offering to help the Cebu provincial government in the upgrading of dilapidated roads.

Samuel Chioson, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president, said he met with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to discuss how the CCCI could help the Capitol in road upgrading and in the implementation of the load limit of trucks using provincial roads.

The Capitol implemented a 10-ton load limit on trucks plying provincial roads in March. This followed the Department of Public Works and Highways’ implementation of the anti-overloading law where the maximum allowable load limit of a vehicle and its cargo could only be 13.5 metric tons per axle starting Feb. 1.

Chioson said the chamber would conduct an inventory of all industries in the towns and municipalities in Cebu provinces that would use the access of provincial roads.

He said the chamber would help in funding the upgrading of these provincial roads.

“That’s why we need to see the industries located in the town and come up with a solution on how to upgrade the roads,” Chioson said.

“Maybe the province together with the business sectors can share,” Chioson said. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
