More foreign aid pours in for ‘Sendong’ victims

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has received $19.2 million (about P844.8 million) in donations and pledges of support for victims of Tropical Storm “Sendong.”
The amount, however, “does not include those given to the United Nations flash appeal” for Sendong victims, the DFA clarified.
In a statement, the DFA on Wednesday said that as of January 3, it had received $8.32 million in cash donations, $5.35 million worth of material aid and $5.59 million in pledges.
“New cash donors include Germany ($651,193.36), Hong Kong ($257,000), Luxembourg ($46,744.61), Laos ($15,000), and Taiwan ($12,993),” said the DFA.
The European Union, on the other hand, sent $3.87 million worth of material assistance.
Earlier, the DFA received cash donations from Japan ($2 million) and Belgium ($522,029.97).
The DFA also got donations from Filipino communities in Hawaii ($30,000), northeast US ($4,800), Washington ($1,670), Ottawa ($1,000), New Zealand $1,000, and Israel ($807), among others.
Royal Dutch Shell Plc is also donating $1 million to aid communities affected by Sendong. Jerry Esplanada and Amy Remo
