Bank teller kills self, details burial plans
A 29-year-old bank teller committed suicide and left a suicide note scheduling his burial and detailing his funeral services including the color of his coffin.
Ivy Cope Montañez, single and a bank teller of Rural Bank of Cebu South (RBCS) in Carcar City, was found hanging dead under a mango tree at the back of their house in Colawin, Argao, about 69.9 kilometers south of Cebu City.
His neighbor Boy Panerio discovered Montañez yesterday hanging on a rope tied on one of the branches of the tree past 5 a.m. Panerio rushed to Montañez’s house, about 30 meters from the tree, and informed his parents.
Argao police station desk officer PO1 Bernard Banogon said Montañez’s parents tried to revive him but failed.
A suicide note was found inside Montañez’s room where he apologized to his family for killing himself.
“I’m sorry but this is my final option. Always remember that I am always at your side. I love you so much,” Montañez’s note said.
He expressed his gratitude to his RBCS officemates for the fun times he shared with them. He also asked them to visit him in his wake.
“Please come to my burol,” a portion of his letter said.
He also mentioned his close friend Erly, saying he could not forget him and asked him to be good always.
But what raised the eyebrows of the police investigators were his last wishes. He said he wanted to be buried in a white coffin at the Argao Public Cemetery on May 22. He also wished for St. Peter Funeral Homes to attend to his funeral service.
His ended his letter saying good-bye to his mother and father, cousins, relatives and friends.
“To all my cousins relatives and friends, death is not the end but it is the beginning of a new life … I’ll just go ahead of you. Please pray for my soul,” the note ended.
Montañez said in his note that he committed suicide at 3 a.m.
PO1 Banogon said they are still investigating on the motive of the suicide, as the victim’s parents initially refused to say if he had problems. He said they are eyeing the possibility of problems in his job as a bank teller./CORRESPONDENT JHUNNEX NAPALLACAN
