Fil-Am faces weapons charges in Jersey City

SAN FRANCISCO – Police nabbed without incident a Filipino American man who was armed and wearing a “police-type” uniform while hanging out at Hudson Mall on Route 440 in Jersey City on Tuesday, March 8.

He was identified Julio Concepcion, 59, of Boyd Court, who worked for the Department of Defense from 1989 to 2003, according to a report by NJ.com.  The Jersey City Police Bomb Squad came to the mall and searched Concepcion’s vehicle.

Concepcion was charged with one count of possession of an unlicensed handgun. He posted a $50,000 cash-or-bond bail, but an arrest warrant was issued when he failed to appear for his first hearing Wednesday, March 9. He also will be charged with possession of an assault rifle and possession of 41 hollow-point bullets.

Concepcion told police that he is a retired federal law enforcement officer. The uniform he was wearing had a patch in the shape of a shield that said “U.S. Police.”

An off-duty police officer spotted him at the mall in police clothing and carrying a .40-caliber gun with two magazines in his belt pouch, authorities said.
