Letter to parents essay contest opens in Hawaii

HONOLULU — Do you have a story to share about your ‘ohana as you were growing up in Hawai’i?

Write an essay in a letter format and enter to win in the third annual Letter to My ParentsTContest organized by Kalamansi Books & Things, Sariling Gawa-Youth Council, Inc., Read 2 Succeed Foundation and Reyukai America.

Three winners will receive $500, ten finalists will $50 Gift Certificates, and for the first thirty (30) qualified entries a Year long test-prep course subscription, will be given, courtesy of Bench Prep and many more!

FEATURED STORIES

Letter to My ParentsTContest in Hawai’i is open to Hawai’i residents ages 15 to 22 years who would like to express their experiences and feelings towards their parents or legal guardians.Participants are encouraged to submit work illustrating examples from personal ‘OHANA life; reflecting family relationships and interactions. Suggested topics include:

  •     What do my parent(s)or guardian(s) mean to me?
  •     What would I like to do for my parent(s)?
  •     How have my parents’ experiences and influence affected or shaped the      person I am today?
  •     How I can improve relationships in my ‘ohana?

Submit entries to www.LetterToMyParents.com (Click the Hawai’i Contest Icon) by October 23,2015. Entries can be in any language used in the State of Hawai’i, but an English translation is required. Contestants 17 years old and under must submit a Parental/Guardian consent form.

Ten finalists will be selected and will be invited to present their letters during the final presentation to judges, scheduled on Sunday, November 22.

Letter to My Parents is also supported by Budget Color Litho, Inc., Filipino Association of University Women and Bench Prep.
