Free lecture: AADP bone marrow drive at Mission Bay, S.F.

03:18 AM August 06, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO — About a year ago, 12-year-old Mailyna Mayate in the Bay Area found a match for her bone marrow for her blood disease, and Mailyna and her lifesaver recently met each other in an emotional interview.

However, finding a match was rare, and according to the Asian American Donor Program (AADP), Filipino bone marrow donors only make up <.5% in their registry.

In support of the work of the AADP, a second bone marrow donor drive will be held on August 19, Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., in front of the Shorenstein Family Café located in the Mission Bay Hospital.
