Aquino nominates new ambassador to Pakistan

President Benigno Aquino III has nominated the replacement of Domingo Lucenario Jr., the Philippine ambassador to Pakistan who died in a helicopter crash last May 8.

A copy of the list of Aquino’s new appointments included Daniel R. Espiritu, “nominated as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

The date of nomination was May 4.

Espiritu was the former deputy consul general of the Philippine consulate in Los Angeles. His last designation was as director of the of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ division on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Political Security Community.

Lucenario and other diplomats were scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when the helicopter they were riding crashed. He was killed along with Norwegian ambassador Leif Larsen and five others. His remains arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday morning.

Espiritu was only one of the 45 officials recently appointed or nominated (papers signed May 4 or 5, 2015) by Aquino. Below is the complete list:
