United Nations to stop funding Philippine population plan

MANILA, Philippines–The country’s family planning program is in peril after the United Nations sounded off its plan to cut back its aid to the government’s population control program.

Iloilo Rep. Janette Garin said that she was informed that the UN would abandon its $1 million birth control program in the Philippines starting next year due to lack of funding from members.

Garin said that the fund was used to bankroll the use of injectable drugs to prevent pregnancy in three months or the distribution of birth control pills especially to those who just gave birth.

The vice chair of the House committee on health said that this has made the passage of the Reproductive Health bill more urgent to ensure sustained funding for family planning programs.

Without this regular UN-funded program to poor Filipinos, Garin feared that the Philippines could experience a spike in its population growth rate recently pegged at 2.4 percent per annum.

Where will the government get funding to replace the lost?
I am in favor of the RH bill to curve our growing population which is not sustainable anymore.

Dapat ang magpakain, magpaaral at magbigay ng bahay ay sina Senator Sotto, Enrile, Pambansang Kamao at ang lahat ng mga mambabatas na tutol sa RH Bill. Isama na natin ang Simbahan Catholiko. Lahat sila ay kagaya ng mga Ostrich na nilalagay ang ulo sa ilalim ng lupa para hindi makita ang banta o problema. Puro salita wala naman gawa.

This means we should not defend on the United Nations or any outsider to push for family planning in the country. We should rely on our own selves. We should believe that we could put order and sense into our population situation on our own. As a first step, let’s pass the RH Bill now. Let the anti-RH Bill fanatics jump with glee over the stoppage of the UN support now. Their celebration will be short-lived because with Pnoy and the pork on our side, the RH Bill will soon be a law.

its not the population Einstein,,, the issue is CORRUPTION!!! all the funding in the world cant help stop the Philippine population growth till authorities put an end to corruption in the DOH, LGU and the NGOs. The US aid, the WHO, now the UN population control program learned their lesson and quit, stop corruption you fund more projects and jobs to unemployed, stop corruption you stop hunger and prevent more crime. you stop corruption provide adequate healtrh care to the poor, then you talk population control.
