MANILA, Philippines—Curious on how did our homegrown snacks appealed to American palette? They liked it very much.

Social media and news website Buzzfeed released Friday a video showing some of its staff members trying four Filipino snacks: HawHaw Milk Powder Candy, Hansel Mocha Sandwich, Mik-mik Sweetened Chocolate Powder and Kirei Yummy Flakes and these drew positive reviews.

The first product that they tried was HawHaw Milk Powder Candy. The staff guessed the correct way of pronouncing “HawHaw”, where one respondent made a good impression that a cow makes. While another staff member remarked that since Filipinos like things so much, we call them twice. They also said that it looks like a bar of soap and tastes like Flintstones Vitamins.

Next on the taste test was Hansel Mocha Sandwich which one respondent christened as the “Philippine Oreo.” One staff member said that it smells like pancakes and while another one said that it smells like coffee. They also said that it tastes good.

Everyone liked Kirei Yummy Flakes. One respondent made an impression of the shrimp that is allegedly “flexing” which could be seen on the package. “It tastes better than it smells,” remarked one girl Buzzfeed staff member. Also, a Chinese staff member said that Kirei reminded her of the “Chinese shrimp cakes” that she had when she was a kid.

The last product which they tasted was Mik-mik Chocolate Powder and served as the highlight of the taste test.  Some respondents coughed upon taking Mik-mik, where one staff member said that “It’s like a burst of cloud in your mouth.” They were also clueless on how to eat it, as some wondered if it should be mixed with water.

The taste test, which lasted for 2 minutes and 26 seconds, was viewed 438, 753 times on YouTube and marked the third time that the Buzzfeed staff tried Filipino food, after tasting products from Jollibee and Filipino street food.
