MANILA, Philippines—The devastation wrought by Super Typhoon Yolanda has drawn an outpouring of support from the German people—more than 176 million euros, or about P10.7 billion, for relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions.

Of the total amount, 144 million euros (P8.7 billion) comprise German private donations, which are being channeled through relief organizations actively operating in the Visayas.

In a statement, the German Embassy said the private donations, which nearly matched the 158 million euros that the German people donated for those affected by the floods that swept Germany in 2013, indicated Germany’s wholehearted support for and solidarity with the Filipino people.

The German government has also contributed a total of 32 million euros (about P2 billion)—16 million euros allocated for the reconstruction of areas destroyed by Yolanda, and another 16 million euros in humanitarian aid for the immediate relief of the typhoon survivors.
